What did Donald Trump say? “What do you have to lose?”
Eight out of 10 voters believe that things are out of control in the United States, with majorities still concerned about the spread of the coronavirus, pessimistic about the economy's returning to normal before next year and down on President Donald Trump's ability to unite the nation.
Those are the major findings of a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that was conducted May 28 to June 2, during the aftermath of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis, as the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 100,000 and after millions of people have lost their jobs.
Hmm, who ever thought a lifelong racist who thinks exercise is bad for you and wants to bring back asbestos would be so out of his element during a pandemic and racial protest movement?
Unfortunately, 45 percent of Americans still somehow — inconceivably — approve of the job Trump is doing. That’s like giving your plumber a five-star Yelp review after finding him asleep on your toilet with his pants around his ankles. So unless Trump waddles into his next press conference wearing nothing but a Hello Kitty backpack and sporting a giant swastika tattoo on his chest, his approval rating seems unlikely to ever drop below 40 percent again.
On the bright side, Joe Biden leads Trump 49 to 42 percent, and 51 percent of voters want to see Congress controlled by Democrats, as opposed to 40 percent who want Republicans in control.
So there’s that.
