Again, let's be crystal clear here. Compared to the content of the opinion, who gave us the information is merely at worst a passing curiosity. This overturned a ruling relied upon and confirmed for nearly fifty years. Furthermore, the radical nature of the attack undermines other rights that more that are supported by enormous majorities. An attack upon the right of women taking away the right to bodily autonomy of women is extremely radical, more than radical enough to be shocking even if there were tea leaves or more indicating this was likely to happen. However, this appears to endanger and threaten the right of privacy, the right to contraception, the right for gay marriage, and even interracial marriage. Its reasoning if logically carried out is monstrous. I will note that no time limit appears in the opinion. This is the dog catching not a car, but a bus.
However, in an editorial this nugget was dropped PRIOR to the revelation that five justices had betrayed women and all men who support equal rights and bodily autonomy for women.
"There was a hint of this last week in a Wall Street Journal editorial warning that Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. might be trying to dissuade Justices Brett M. Kavanaugh or Amy Coney Barrett from voting to overrule Roe outright. Roberts famously changed his mind after initially voting to strike down the Affordable Care Act in 2012 and “may be trying to turn another Justice now,” the Journal warned. “We hope he doesn’t succeed — for the good of the Court and the country.”
The Journal said its “guess” was that Alito was writing the majority opinion. Is it a coincidence that the Alito draft then leaked to Politico — or is it part of the same campaign to stave off a Kavanaugh or Barrett defection?"
This seems to be exactly what is happening and the Wall Street Journal AND THEIR SOURCE knew about it last week! It's too much to believe that multiple people were giving us this information when it had never happened before. As many know, I was a fundamentalist before and for not a short time. I was deeply immersed in it. This boxes these five justices, the four other retrogrades with Alito the leading retrograde here, in. If they back off of this, the fundamentalists will be outraged. They would lose a lot of their energy, activism, and donations. The anger would be palpable. It would be seen as a betrayal of principles based upon cowardice, the fear of the vast majority of the public. I can't begin to tell you of the consequences that Republicans would face from their most committed voters, their activists. The backlash would be enormous.
The Wall Street Journal was warning against softening this and what they wrote about last week shows that they had prior knowledge of the general situation. Clearly, their source became more worried and decided to go all in and make it impossible for the five radical justices to soften this.
