Dan Merica at CNN Politics wrote an article on a recent Wall Street Journal story that many other outlets are running with today: Bernie Sanders isn't changing his tune on Clinton emails.
The comment was cast as a break from what Sanders said during the first Democratic debate...Senator Sanders is continuing to insist, as he has throughout the campaign, that the ongoing media hoopla about Clinton's emails is a distraction from the kitchen-table issues that his campaign is all about.In actuality, though, it is consistent with what he has said in the past about Clinton's emails.
Accordingly, his campaign staff has no intention of making it a football either:
Tad Devine, Sanders' top strategist, said there is "absolutely" no plan for Sanders to start going after Clinton on emails and that his comments to the Wall Street Journal were not new.Devine also explicitly rejected attempts by Republicans (such as Trey Gowdy) to try to use the FBI email investigation to justify their own wild goose chases, stating that the Benghazi Committee had "made fools of themselves".
In summary:
1. No, the Sanders campaign has NOT changed its strategy;
2. No, they are NOT making hay out of their opponent's own business;
3. Yes, they want the FBI investigation to play out without partisan interference;
4. No, they DON'T consider the Benghazi dog-&-pony show legitimate.
Sometimes a Murdoch hit-job is just a Murdoch hit-job. Nothing to see here, folks.
