Zephyr Teachout will be facing incumbent Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for the governor's race in New York State on September 9th. Her running mate is Tim Wu, and he'll be going up against Cuomo's pick for Lieutenant Governor Kathy Holchul.
We already have a pretty good idea about what kind of Democrat Cuomo really is - one who shuts down corruption investigations when they get too close to his office, one who is perfectly happy keeping the State Senate in the hands of Republicans, one who is the favorite of Wall Street and is sitting on a mountain of money. But what about Holchul?
The Teachout campaign has put together a devastating video of Holchul statements. Now anyone can take words out of context - but still? These are doubtless taken from her campaign to fight for her Congressional seat after being redistricted (Thanks, Andrew!) when she was trying to court the conservative upstate vote. She's one more 'Democrat' who thinks the path to victory is to run away from the party towards the G.O.P.
Watch for yourself and decide if Hochul is the kind of Democrat New York - or the country for that matter - really needs.
If you are not registered as a Democrat in New York State, it's too late to register for the primary on September 9th. If you are registered though, this is chance to really let Andrew Cuomo feel it where it hurts - when he's going after purely Democratic votes. The general election is probably a lock for Cuomo over Astorino but a good turnout for Teachout and Wu in the Primary would send a message to both Cuomo and the national Democratic Party.
